About Vegan Haven

Pigs Peace Sanctuary is the proud owner of a store that is all about compassion and kindness towards animals! Washington's only 100% vegan store is Vegan Haven, located in Seattle's University District, on the corner of 55th and University Way.

If you are a vegan you know how wonderful it is to be in a store where you can buy anything and everything without reading labels!!

If you are not a vegan but a friend or family member is, then this is the place to confidently buy for them or purchase a gift certificate for them.

If you just love the sanctuary and what we do for animals, then this is the place to shop.

How did the Sanctuary buy a store?

When the opportunity was presented to us my question was how? We have no money to buy a store. Then, generously, one of our board members gave the donation for the down payment. The remaining note will be slowly paid off and the Sanctuary has a store! Never in my wildest dreams did I plan this for the Sanctuary. I do see it as a wonderful way to support the animals. Anytime you purchase a candy bar, soy milk, or a sandwich, a part of every purchase will help animals.

Store Manager's Message

I've been vegan for more than 15 years and was overjoyed to find a vegan grocery store--right here in Seattle. What could be better? How about the fact that all the proceeds support Pig's Peace Sanctuary. After years of relying on the store for delicious treats, tons of dog food, and everything in between, I decided to join the team of dedicated, compassionate volunteers. Vegan Haven is a special place with amazing volunteers and customers; it was a joy to spend my Friday nights volunteering there. Now that I'm the manager, I'm excited to build on the store's strong history of providing our community with outstanding, cruelty-free products. The world of vegan offerings expands every day, and my goal is to make sure we bring the best of what's out there to our vegan corner of the world.

I'm always looking for ways we can improve Vegan Haven, so please let me know if there's anything we can do to better serve you and our community.

To get to know Demarie a bit more she answered a few questions:

1. I grew up in the town of: Salty Everett, WA
2. My earliest childhood memory is: Trying to trick my younger sister into letting me play with her hair--it never worked.
3. When I was eight I wanted to be ________ when I grew up.
   A Solid Gold dancer, or a doctor, or a hair stylist, or an actress or...
4. Three words that describe me are: Compassionate, particular, and goofy.
5. My favorite thing to do on my day off is: Hike in the mountains with my dogs.
6. My least favorite household chore / task is: Clipping my dog's nails. It takes forever and I get pummeled the entire time.
7. The thing most people don't know about me is: I get a bit obsessed with TV shows.
8. My biggest fear in life is: That the world won't go vegan. It really is awful to think of all the suffering going on out there.
9. The best thing invented is: Vegan doughnuts.
10. The one thing I wish was never invented is: Vegan doughnuts.
11. My all time favorite movie is: The Royal Tenenbaums, although truth be told, I had to look on my dvd to see how to spell it.
12. My all time favorite book is: The Color Purple.
13. My favorite vegan restaurant in Seattle is: Wayward Vegan Cafe.
14. My favorite vegan breakfast is: The Griddle Combo at Wayward.
15. My favorite vegan dinner is: Pizza from Pizza Pi. Their white garlic sauce is too good.
16. The one thing you will always find in my refrigerator is: Wildwood soy creamer. It's so creamy!
17. My vision as manager for Vegan Haven is: To make an upbeat, fun space where people and animals are appreciated and respected. A place where you can find all things vegan and where you know your money is going to a good cause: Pigs Peace Sanctuary.
